Charitable tax receipt

As a Canadian registered charity (#140171216 RR0001) BEST can issue a charitable tax receipt for your vehicle donation.

Vehicle valuations are based on the Sanford Evans Gold Book ("Blue Book" is a U.S. valuation guide that is not used in Canada) and reflect the fair market value of the vehicle based on condition, mileage, and features. The Gold Book reflects current market valuations.

The value of any benefits received must be deducted from the value of the charitable tax receipt. That exact value will vary from donor to donor. Obviously, the value of the vehicle being donated must exceed the value of any benefits for a tax receipt to be issued.

Following the donation, participants have 30 days to complete the transportation planning and to take advantage of any of the other options available to BEST Mode Shift members, at which time the value of the tax receipt will be determined.

Donating your vehicle is a way to support BEST and the program so that we can continue to fight climate change and work for liveable communities.

By donating, you avoid the hassle of having to sell it yourself, with the risk that it may not sell for weeks—or months—and that the selling price will almost surely be less than the book value.

Zipcar Membership discount

Reducing car use doesn't mean you have to be totally without access to a vehicle. Most vehicles sit idle for most of the time, yet you are paying full time costs for part-time usage. With vehicle sharing programs such as Zipcar and the Car Coop (CAN- the Cooperative Auto Network)you can have access to a vehicle, when you need it on an hourly or daily basis--and pay for just the time you need, gas, maintenance and insurance all included.

Vehicle donors through BEST are eligible for a special discount on Zipcar memberships. The Car Co-op offers deposit-free memberships for those not ready for a full membership so you can try it out first.

Can't decide between two? You don't have to! Lots of folks are members of both.

eBike Discounts

eBikes:

eBikes and electric assist bikes are becoming an increasingly attractive option to many people. The good folks at E-Bike Town (read more) have agreed to give a $300 discount to BEST Vehicle Donors who purchase an eBike from them.
